Nextones is an international festival that promotes contemporary musical research and experimentation in its various forms, particularly in its dialogue with the performing and audiovisual arts.

On the opening night of Nextones Michela de Mattei presents Hydromantique, an underwater listening session with four underwater speakers. The sound is developed in collaboration with Palm Wine and consists of an approx. 30-minute sequence of audio materials assembled into a loose narrative structure, combining underwater stories, spoken words, and fragments from diverse musical repertoires. At the centre of the pool, a submerged terracotta jar evokes a static underwater organism around which the session unfolds, inviting listers into a collective ritual.

Hydromantique will first be presented as a live performance at 8:30pm, and again at 10:15pm on Thursday 16th July. It will then remain as a temporary installation with daily playback sessions, opening to additional sonic contributions.

Nextones runs from Thursday 16th July to Sunday 19th July.
