“Have we ever considered the whale?”
on the occasion of his solo exhibition, Circle, Square Circle at argos – centre for audiovisual arts, on Sunday 28 January Gernot Wieland will re-stage his lecture performance Past, Present, Present, Past.
originally premiered at steirischer herbst in 2019, in this performance Gernot compares the story of Jonah and The Whale with the repression often found in Austrian culture; exploring this connection through the stories of Franz Kafka and Ingeborg Bachmann, fast food restaurants, the Bauhaus, adaptation and guilt.
