Drawing Room presents: Drawing Biennial 2026
Drawing Room celebrates its twelfth edition of the Drawing Biennial with more than 300 newly commissioned drawings by leading international artists. The free exhibition will culminate in a two-week online auction fundraiser, with bidding starting at £400.
Each artist has been invited to produce a new drawing on A4 paper, using any medium. Selected by a committee of Drawing Room’s co-founders and directors alongside invited curators and collectors, participating artists respond to themes spanning ecology, identity, spirituality, politics and imagined worlds.
Toby Christian will participate with Stringer Study (Dear Toby…) (2025).
Since 2021, Toby has been developing Stringer, an application that generates a suspended, fraying digital string sculpture whose composition is dictated by the user’s statement. Emerging slowly from darkness before fading away, each string form is made from an expanding archive of physical string works in his studio, digitally remodelled and interwoven with each interaction. Stringer Study (Dear Toby…) is a drawing of what resulted after he inputted the letter of invitation to contribute to the Drawing Room Biennial 2026.
The exhibition will open on Thursday 16th April and will run until Tuesday 23rd June. The online auction will commence at 12pm on Tuesday 9th June, and bidding will end at 9pm on Tuesday 23rd June.
