We are overjoyed to announce that Gernot Wieland’s 2021 film, Bird in Italian is Uccello, has been named the best experimental film at this year’s German Short Film Awards.

Speaking about Gernot’s film, the judges said: “‘Bird in Italian is Uccello’ is a meandering, poetic search for traces of sovereignty in the socio-psychological structures that define societies.”

Summing up the importance of the winning films, the German Minister of State for Culture, Claudia Roth said: “[each film] invites the audience to change perspective […] They make it clear what a meaningful role culture has for free democratic civilizations as a place of discourse and diversity.”
